About Web Images

Using images on a website can be tricky. Because websites are usually presented on a screen and are downloaded over an internet connection the rules are different than for printed or locally stored images.

Photo reduction before uploadA good way to illustrate this is by looking at a digital photo. A typical photo will have 2736x1824 pixels and is 1220kb and when printed out will have fantastic quality. By contrast the same photo reduced to 273x182 pixels is 23kb and looks good on screen but not when printed.

The smaller image is fast and effective for a website, saving space and speeding up the time it takes for a page to load in your visitors browser.
