What if there are Technical Issues?

From time to time even the best system can experience technical issues. Ocular hosts their websites on a New Zealand based server. The company that runs the server is highly reputable and reliable. Occasionally servers or the connections that access them go offline causing websites to be inaccessible for a period of time. When the network and server are working this is called the "uptime", our hosting company have a 99.6% server uptime target.

If your website is down and it is the fault of the web host or system we will endeavour to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. You will not be charged for technical support if you contact us for a technical support issue that involves our system or host.

How quickly can a website be built?

Your website can only be built after we have received all the content and a signed contract from you. Once this has arrived and you have chosen a colour scheme and style from the template menu (or we build based on your branding) the website can usually be online within 15 working days. Sites that require extra functionality may take longer.

Who can see my website?

Anyone in the world with an internet connection can see your website. if you want to restrict access to certain pages e.g., for your staff or special customers, this is possible via a website login system. A price for this feature can be provided on application.

What features can I add to my website?

You can add many features to your website. A few examples: a newsletter subscription service, a booking form, a shopping cart, a search engine, extra email addresses, extra space, web video, web audio, a photo gallery, file downloads. Prices are available on request.

Do I need broadband for the system to work?

No, broadband is recommended but not essential, dial up can make editing times very slow.

What software do I need?

You only need a web browser like Internet Explorer or Firefox and an internet connection. The CD shipped with YARE contains movies which require the Flash plugin for your browser, this can usually be downloaded for free. What makes YARE clever is that all the software is installed on the web server, you will not be asked to install anything on your own computer. Some older web browsers are not standards compliant and may not work with YARE.

Can I try a few designs before choosing one?

You can choose a template from the YARE website and we'll update it with your logo and branded colours. If you want a custom designed template or logo we can also give you an estimate for how much this will cost.

Do I own the Software?

No. The software that YARE uses is called Typo3, it is open source and provided under a licence called the GPL www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.html . Because typo3 is protected by GPL the usually high cost of licence fees are avoided, you are only paying for the development of your website. It also means that a community of users are constantly developing the system and improving it.

Do I own the Content?

Any images or text that you provide to us remain your property. The template and software are leased to you for as long as you continue your YARE payments. If you wish to move to another provider in the future, and providing that your payments are up-to-date, you can take your text and images with you at that time.

It is crucial that any images or text you provide is owned by you or you have permission from the copyright holder to use that content. Content under copyright dispute can be removed from your website until the issue of copyright is resolved.
