Text Editing

The Text Editor is the interface for editing content. It allows users to input, edit and delete text, images and other content types.

Layout of the Editor

Text is added to a field on the page. Text can be typed in directly or pasted from another application. The field looks like many popular text editors.

Buttons above the text field are used to add tags to text. The tags are not visible to the editor but style the content to show how it will appear in the website.

Editor Buttons

The buttons of the Editor are similar to those in popular word processing packages. Buttons are selected by the clicking the left mouse button. Text can be highlighted by holding the left mouse button and moving the cursor. Highlighted text can be transformed by selecting a button e.g., Bold or italic.

Some button transformations require the cursor to be in the text but not highlighted. To apply these transformations just click the mouse into the text and select the button e.g., adding a table.

The buttons are:

  • Copy, cut, paste: for adding, copying and moving text.
  •  Paragraph Style: Sets a style (using a class) for the entire paragraph.
  • Text Style: Sets a style (using a class) for a highlighted section of text.
  •  Bold, Italic, Sub-script, Super-script: Font highlights. Underline should only be used for links so is not included on the menu.
  •  Ordered list, Unordered list: Lists using numbers or bullet points.
  •  Indent, Outdent: Shifts the left margin for a paragraph.
  •  Link: Makes highlighted text into a link.
  •  Table: Adds a table to the text field.
  • Special Character: Inserts a symbol or character.
  •  Image: Adds an image into the text field.
  • Find / Replace: allows the option of searching for content or searching and replacing particular words
  • Undo / Redo: the last action can be undone or redone.
