Using Styles

Styles are used to ensure consistency in a website. Headings, links and fonts are set from one place (a style sheet). Using a style sheet means that the look of every single web page can be changed by editing one file. Style sheets are also known as Cascading Style Sheets (CSS).

Styles are set to work on standard tags e.g., headings and paragraphs. Styles can also be set to be specific to one type of item e.g., quotes. Customised styles are called classes. Most YARE sites do not use custom classes.

Setting headings in a content element

Headings are set in the heading field but can also be included in long sections of text. Headings follow the order Heading 1- Heading 3, with Heading 1 as the biggest (more headings are possible but not recommended). Heading 3 should usually appear within a Heading 2, Heading 1 is usually reserved for the page title and should be avoided.
